A useful article highlighting that different approaches are available, moving away from directive approaches to a more coaching based style. In the modern workplace it is important to be flexible and dynamic in your approach to line management responsibilties.

I think it is really important to see those you are managing or coaching as people, and as individuals. The way to get the best out of people is to try and relate to them and understand where they are coming from.
I will try harder to spend more time with those I am coaching to learn more about them and what drives them - that way I will hopefully be able to guide them better.

From reading this article it confirms that the Directive approach isn't always suitable to use for certain individuals and the coaching style of line management is proven to be far more effective in getting the best out of people. The article reminds of learning about situational leadership and when best to apply the different approaches.
I feel that I take a coaching approach with my teams as it tends to make them feel more involved in the decision making process and it becomes more of a team effort and collaborative approach rather than a dictatorship whereby it could result in resistance.

Useful article, adding to existing knowledge in coaching. Helpful reminder of how to further develop my skills, bith in work and wider life. Keen to develop relationships and see team grow in their roles but also need to maintain overview and control.
