Having delivered a data project at VMO2 this article gave my confidence that I had delivered it in an effective way.

In the absence of a specifically defined data strategy, limited internal capability, senior management changes and outsourcing of the data management to Accenture much of the principles outlined in the article where followed - although not in the same order.

However, what I have learnt and will take forward in the future is how projects/programmes such as this can be positioned within the business to gain stakeholder approval from the very start.

Much of the difficulty of delivering such a transformational changes is the ability to take the direct and indirect stakeholders on the journey with you. The article showed and impressed on me that in the future bringing to life at all levels of the business how a transformation change can benefit them and how that benefit can have direct and indirect benefits on the wider business and stakeholders.

A wider learning which can support and help me and my team in the future is around the articulation of value - and how value can be created by harnesing exisiting resources but organising and curating them in a different way.

With the drive for greater efficiency and asset utilisation unlocking value is of ultimate importance.
