From personal experience, fostering a close relationship is very important when working remotely. We have lost the personal touch or physical presence so we need to be more engaging with colleagues.

The well being of your subordinates and colleagues are crucial for them to not to feel left out, alone, or working too much .

The occasional personal phone call other than work topics would help foster a good working environment.
