Very good but short video on "Motivation and the Motivational climate. As leaders in our own organisations we need to fully understand the role we have to positively influence our teams to higher standards of performance by creating motivational climate.

I am currently a part of an organisational with a very toxic climate, we recently did an employee climate survey, the result were so bad that even the international board of Directors had to get involved and external parties  (consulting firms) were involved to assist the organisation to get out of such bad climate.

As I continue my journey as a Finance Business Leader I will ensure that I positively influence my team members to perform at their peak and ensure that I create an environment that is conducive for the to increase the productivity.

Some worked examples of what good looks like would improve this video.

As a director on the site I try my best to be visible walking around the site and addressing people by their first name (or nickname if appropriate) - this is so important and is often overlooked. I try to ensure I engage on a personal level first and then try and get into more work related topics - seems to work for me and I find out quite a lot about the organisation this way which wouldn't necessarily come out at official employee forums.

My current organisation has a challenging office space which makes interaction more difficult, but we are reviewing our required interactions by department to ensure that the right people are sat together in order to improve the speed of decision making.

I agree that motivation is about getting the climate right, but having leaders who do what they say and listen to employees can sometimes overcome a more challenging climate.

In my last role I had no real team to speak of but I am now moving back into a role with a medium sized team and one of the key objectives is to develop and motivate the team that is dispersed across multiple sites. I look forward to that challenge and this video gave me some useful tips - I recognise in particular that Finance can sometimes take a slightly pessimistic view due to financial performance challenges, system issues etc but I will always take a constructive, positive approach where possible.
